A beach on Barra

Back in June last year, I had my first ever visit to the fabulous Outer Hebrides, also known as the Western Isles. Set off the west coast of Scotland, they lie away from the normal hurly burly rush of life. This shows on the beautiful beaches; not too crowded is it?

Uig

This is the main port for the southern isles in the Outer Hebrides. Now that Skye is connected to the mainland by a bridge at Lochalsh (boo! hiss!), most of the commercial traffic for the Uists, Benbecula, Eriskay and perhaps Barra uses the daily ferry service.
