Until 2011, the A3, the main road from London to Portmouth, used to hug the rim of the Devil’s Punch Bowl and the nearby small town of Hindhead used to cause massive traffic jams at a set of traffic lights. Now the road is a tunnel for several miles and directly below where we are stood. The old road is now grassed over and peace and tranquility all add to the superb vista and provide a wonderful spot for walking, horse riding and mountain biking.
A satisfying evening last night in the cycling club annual photographic competition. There were three classes; cycling, flowers and anything else. It was judged by a proper photographic competition judge so I was a bit concerned as we generally have different thoughts about what makes a good photograph. I was unplaced in the flower class (not surprising – not an area that appeals) but got 1st and 2nd in the cycling class, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the anything else class. I wish my cycling ability was as good.
