Sheep Saturday

There are mutterings in my bunch of loyal SC followers that they feel they have had enough of Sheep Saturday. So perhaps it is time for a change. This will be the last Sheep Saturday image for at least seven days so I thought I would finish Sheep Saturday with a shot of my favourites, the Herdwicks. A new series starts on Monday called “Sheep Monday” (only joking…. or am I?).
Honister Pass

The Fred Whitton Challenge is Britian’s most popular cycling Sportive. Goodness only knows why, though, as the route is 119 miles (192km) long and has a total ascent of over 3900m (12,800ft). It is massively over-subscribed with 1000 riders taken part each May. The 2017 event raised £1.7M for charity and the target for 2018 was £2M. Here, a cyclist is about to climb just one of the many hills on the route; this one heads up to the Honister Pass (home to Britain’s last working slate mine). I’ve no idea if he was going to be a partipant in the event held the weekend following this shot (May 2014).
No, I have absolutely no intention nor interest in doing this. I’m rubbish at climbing hills but I do enjoy going down them. In fact, I’ve been going downhill for at least the last 20 years.
