Chain of events

This is the important bits of Duncan’s bike; the chain really does not want to look like this; it works much better if it is a continuous loop! It snapped with around just under a mile to go on the first day of the weekend. Duncan is blaming the fact that he oiled it (normally it’s quite rusty!) for its failure. My thought is that as Duncan will go up and down each hill twice before I’ve done it once, then the chain is over-stressed! Duncan is the only one of us who does not use either cleats or toe clips and will ride either in a pair of Dunlop Green Flash plimsolls that he’s had for around 20 years at least (and wears them for gardening) or, if its been particularly wet, he will wear wellies!! It looks like he’s been in the bushes to pick up the ferns. We fixed his chain next morning after breakfast andl it stayed fixed much to our amazement.

Resting

Thank you for your comments on “Two kees and a gate image” yesterday. Perahsp I should have put out some warning beforehand about of a nervous disposition…. Wink My previous “knees and gate” images has the gate directly behind me.

Getting close to the end of our first ride in the Lake District. Steve, on the left, was already feeling kn*ckered, Gordon continues to amaze me; he’s 10 months older than me but can still climb hills much better than me and Duncan is, well, Duncan and could have easily done the whole ride again. The track off to the right is misleading; after climbing up towards the summit for some distance, it just fizzles out into a myriad of useless sheep tracks through the bracken! I was not popular leading the gang on this wild goose (sheep?) chase as we all had to come back to this point and then take the left track for 50 yds and then take the next right; oops. My previous “knees and gate” images has the gate directly behind me.
